Libreyard

Open source

The software you would use here is written by other people. Libreyard runs it.

The projects

Vaultwarden is the server: an independent implementation of the Bitwarden server API, written in Rust by Daniel García and contributors, under the AGPL-3.0. Source at github.com/dani-garcia/vaultwarden; Libreyard takes the server from the official vaultwarden/server image.

The Bitwarden clients, the apps, browser extensions, command-line client and web vault, are written by Bitwarden Inc. Most of the client code is GPL-3.0. Source at bitwarden/clients, bitwarden/android and bitwarden/ios; downloads at bitwarden.com/download.

Unmodified

Libreyard runs the upstream server as released, with ordinary configuration, and adds nothing inside it. That keeps your data readable by upstream software, which is what makes leaving possible. It also means the source of what you are using is the upstream source at the links above. The version is named in the README of every archive.

Libreyard's own code, the portal, the activator and the sandbox, is not open source. None of it is needed to run your data elsewhere.

Names and trademarks

Libreyard hosts Vaultwarden, which works with the official Bitwarden clients. It is not Bitwarden, and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Bitwarden Inc. or the Vaultwarden project. Vaultwarden is not affiliated with Bitwarden Inc. Bitwarden is a trademark of Bitwarden Inc.; other names belong to their owners. Bitwarden offers its own hosted service at bitwarden.com.
